On the eve of the Men’s Final of Wimbledon 2023, it has dawned on me that this could be the changing of the guard. For the past 20 years tennis has been all about the big three. Now with one already retired and another on the verge, Wimbledon 2023 looks like it could be the end of one of the greatest periods of dominance in the sports’ history.
Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are some of the greatest tennis players to ever lay foot on a court. They have broken records which currently look like they may never be broken again. Their dominance could be compared to that of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, both of whom have dominated the world of football for the past ten years.

However, as nothing can last forever and with Djokovic being the only one playing at a high level at the current moment it seems likely that this will be the tournament when the guards change.
Novak Djokovic’s opponent in the final is Carlos Alcaraz who is on the top of his game. Alcaraz is one of the best on tour and at only twenty looks likely to dominate in the future. Other talents for the future could be players like Holger Rune or

Jannik Sinner who are both bright talents in themselves. I find it extremely important that there should be a change in the guard, the time has come for new blood, a new era. Change is a part of life, old things give way for new things to come. Just like this old players must give way eventually to the new generation of players who will carry forward the game of tennis and bring it to new heights.
In conclusion, Wimbledon 2023 could be the year for the change in an era which has lasted 20 years. It is going to be extremely exciting to see the final this evening, and maybe even an upset, a true changing of the guard.

Very well expressed Nirvan, nut remember Rafa has still not called it a day and is in rehabilitation.
Wondering the same too. It was exciting to see Alcaraz play!
Great piece Nirvaan. Looks like you called it right 👍
